Question: How to buy "World at War" DVD's!?
I'd like to get the time-life "World at War" videos for my Dad for Christmas!. But I don't know which to get!. There are old ones, and new 30th anniversary ones!. I've heard that the new ones are missing some good parts!. The commercial on TV said there was new "never before seen" video!. But is the old version really the better version!? I have a lot of WWII DVD's (documentaries) and have seen "World at War" on cable TV!. I'm not sure which would be better except to say that the biggest difference between the older videos and the newer videos is how they are narrated and presented!.

The older ones have that certain 1950's wholesome nostalgic feel to them that really make them enjoyable!. However, the newer video series make much better use of CGI and digital editing when describing maps and stuff!. The newer ones also have a tendency to add authentic sound effects to the video which adds a bit more to the entertainment value

I would suggest getting the newer of the two primarily because chances are your father has probably seen the ones they left out!. If your father is a fan of World War II documentaries, might I suggest also considering a documentary called "Hitler In Colour"!. It is an outstanding documentary with a load of never before seen high quality video of Hitler and it is all in color!. All the videography was done to beautify der Fuehrer, presumably on the assumption that the Third Reich would go on and on forever!. The quality is better than what Hollywood was using at the time
