Question: Can anyone tell me what were major conflicts in England in the early 1800s!?
I'm working on a project and I'd like to know what could cause a "witch" putting a spell on a young lady!?
What would make her that mad!?
I'm sure I can think something up but I was wondering if anything really sprung out when I asked!.
Thanks in advance!

The dominating event was that Britain was involved in the Napoleonic Wars against France!. Britain had large armies in Europe, and hundreds of Royal Navy ships at sea around the world!. Lasted from before 1800, to 1815, with a year's peace in 1802-1803!. Perhaps use the year 1812!. At that point the USA was also at war with Britain!.

At home there were increased taxes to pay for the war, which increased the tensions between poor farmers paying rent and the rich landowners!. (Few individual farmers owned their own land!.)

There were French spies at work in London, and in the major seaports (Portsmouth)!. If your witch was a patriotic Brit, she could be mad at a French spy she discovered, or a young lady Brit who was selling information to the French!. (Info like when important ships were going to sail, or if army reinforcements were going to be delayed!.!.!.)
