Question: Why do some people say that Jonathan and David were homosexuals!?
In the Bible there is an endearing story about the brotherlike relationship of David and Jonathan and now people are using it to twist scripture for the homosexual agenda!.

God is clearly against homosexuality and would not and WILL NOT make any exceptions!.

I don't understand why people think that there is any clout given to such an allegation and horrific twisting of scripture can you!?

I am interested if you do believe that the story was about homosexuals as to just how you came to that conclusion and what proof do you have that supports that as a fact!?

Because people nowadays are obsessed with homosexuality and seem to see it everywhere!. They can't believe in any kind of friendship that doesn't involve sex!. We live in a tiresomely sexc-obsessed society!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't remember this story!. The Bible is up for intrepertation, and they see that David and Joathatn were gay!. I guess they wanted to point out the Bible is sometimes contradictory!.

Man wrote the Bible a couple of hundred years after Jesus died!. There are different versions!.!.!.If God wrote it, than there should be only one version!. I'm just saying that man misintreperted some parts of the Bible, or they changed it to match their agenda!. ;)Www@QuestionHome@Com

God is about FAMILY !. this is a Man his Wife and Children!. i would say god is Pro Family, rather then anti homosexual!. however you want to word play it!. anyways

David and Jonathan where Closer then brothers, shared a tight bond that no other men have shared since!. they where not lovers!. but instead Very Good friends!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

They were; god wasnt against homosexuality until people were against it and stated that is was his willWww@QuestionHome@Com

because people are lookin for biblical justification for being gay, which doesnt existWww@QuestionHome@Com

There was a deeply brotherly affection and one of love and I love my brother and I am not a homosexual Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well the words are 'passing the love of women'!. You have to explain that one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They are just seeing what they want to see!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Whos really cares lol!? And who has proof that they even existed anyway!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Actually because it is true!.
They got involved when they left king saulWww@QuestionHome@Com

Because they'd like to believe that!. Too bad it just isn't true!Www@QuestionHome@Com

One element of your argument that I think is strongly flawed is that because "God is clearly against homosexuality," David and Jonathan cannot have been lovers!. God was against adultery, and David committed adultery!. He was against murder, and David committed murder!.

To more directly address your question, I think that one man's "horrific twisting of scripture" is another man's open-minded interpretation!. You seem to come from the perspective that the Bible is the literally true and inspired word of God, but it would be understandable if someone with a more liberal background were to come to different conclusions!. Jonathan and David's relationship was clearly homosocial if not homosexual, and there is an intensity to their relationship that borders on eroticism!. They loved each other passionately!. I don't think that there's any real "proof" that they were homosexual, but neither do I think that it's totally implausible!. I can certainly see how people could come to that conclusion!.

I don't think that this represents "the homosexual agenda"; it's not some kind of conspiracy!. There aren't secret gay meetings where men in leather chaps talk about how they'll distort scripture to deceive straight folks!. People are reading the Bible as best they know how; they just come to the text with a much different conception of it than you do, and their conclusions vary accordingly!. Call them misguided if you want, but I see no reason to believe that this interpretation was made in bad faith!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The reason that some people interpret the story on David and Jonathan lies in 2 Samuel 1:26!. After Jonathan dies David says: I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother;you were very dear to me!. Your love for me was wonderful, more wonderful than that of women!. The translation is from the NIV (my preferred translation)!. We all know that David was quite the ladies man, even to the point of committing adultery and murder for women!.
Some of the theorists also use translation as evidence!. They say that the word used for love is the romantic term and other phrases indicate romantic rather than brotherly love!. But Hebrew translation can be tricky!. The Bible said for a long time that Moses had horns!. The Hebrew for halo and horns differs by only by vowels which were not included in ancient Hebrew!.
This has also been an interpretation since Medieval times, so it's nothing new!.
Do I think that their story is one of friendship or one of homosexual love!? Probably it was a close friendship!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am not religious in any way but am studying the bible right now for a university course!. I think homosexuality is fine, but am not gay myself, i also believe poeple should be free to believe anything they wish so long as they are not harming another!. So i think in this matter i am fairly neutral!. reading the bible i did get the impression that David and Johnathan were gay especially after this passage

1:26 I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women!.

and this passage

20:41 And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded!.

If you put this in the context of the time homosexuality was fairly accepted back then and many men had sexual relationships/ sexual love with one another without needing to be labeled "gay"!. i am reading this book as simply a very historical text and in that context it is likely they did have a homosexual relationship!. Didn't John refer to himself as "the disciple whom Jesus loved!?"
I guess that will be their next target eh!?

Personally it's disgusting and absurd what people will do trying desperately to justify their actions!.

To the chick who said that "God was against adultery and murder" yes he was and is but do you see him calling those unforgivable sins!?
As much as I want to think sometimes in my intolerant mind that all homosexuals shouldn't even have the right to salvation or repentance I have to be honest with myself that the Bible says that they can be forgiven!.

The idea of two men just sickens me to the core and I openly admit that but even though it does I can't hate them as people!. I just prefer to be around straight guys who won't make comments about how tight my a** looks :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

The key parts of your question are, in the Bible, and an endearing story!. If you can accept the fact that the bible is just a collection of stories, written by man, to keep the less Intelligent, lower class population under control, then we can move on!. When you spoke to your god, did you actually hear a voice!? Or was it some guy, in a dress with a roman collar, a smoking purse, and a funny hat!. Unless you have personally spoken to a mythical god don't pay any attention to the gibberish spouted by religious leaders!. If you did in fact hear voices from god, check yourself in somewhere, because there is no god speaking to you!. Horrific twisting of scripture!? What do you call condemning a whole group of people, because the voice of god, in your empty head, says it's wrong!.

This should never have been asked in the history section when its a work of fiction!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
