In 1933, the law to suppress professional crime was passed!. (Gesetz zur Bek?mpfung des Berufsverbrechertums)!.According to this law, anyone who was considered a professional criminal because of former felonies could be imprisoned immediately!. The prisoners were usually sent to penal camps (Strafgefangenenlager) (but not to death camps, as the first answerer wrote)!.

all these things still thrived within the third reich!. they obviously had to more discrete about things due to the regime that was in place!. Already someone has already mentioned the infamous penal battalions more undesirables!. Some good reading on this is, the Novels by Sven Hassell, where they frequent look at the under class within the third reich, in between bouts of fighting on the eastern front!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Criminals like that were given short thrift by the Nazi's and were often executed or more commonly sent to concentration camps!.
When the war became more intense a lot were put into penal battalions which were always at the front of any attack and at the rear of any defence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
