Question: How could World War 1 have been a war to end all wars!?
I am a junior in high school and writing an essay for US!. History and we have to discuss ways that the peace conference could have created a peaceful world for the future!. Yet, the main question is How could world war one have been a war o end all wars!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, before WWI, wars were mainly localized things!. For example, France and Germany might have been fighting, and it would have affected them, and maybe the countries around them!. WWI was the first time a war affected everyone, even on other continents!. Basically it was viewed as such a large war, there could never be one to top it!. But they demanded so much of Germany after the war that Germany was left just bitter and desperate enough to try the whole thing again!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The slaughter among the combatants, coupled with the fact that neither could achieve a definitive military victory over each other lead to the belief that any future war would be so damaging even to the victor, that no nation would go to war again!. (Pretty much the same idea lies behind the idea of "Nuclear Deterrence")!. Sadly, what we learn from the past, is that we learn nothing from the past
