The world was sent into shock when Germany under Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia (an Eastern-block country)!. So the thought was, try to contain the Nazi desire for control by appeasing Hitler and signing the Czechs over to Nazi Germany!. But Hitler wanted more and, as the other author indicated, signed an anti-aggression pack with USSR!. (See Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact) What this meant was, with a sympathetic USSR, Hitler was free to invade France, and you can imagine the shock waves that reverberated with that move!. It's true they divided up Poland, but Hitler moved east, invading Poland, stretching ever eastward, driving forces deep into the Soviet Union in the ballsiest invasion since Napoleon during the early 1800's!.

The Soviet response has always been to withdrawal within their own territory, knowing that the Russian winter would make things difficult for the invading troops!. Then Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, and the United States entered the war!. When we liberated France in 1944, Germany was besieged on the land and sea, from the air, night and day bombing raids, and on multiple fronts!. "Operation Barbarossa" was the campaign by Germany to invade the former Soviet Union!.

So yeah, you can say Nazi Germany was opposed by the Soviet Union after 1941, when Germany attack the former Soviet UnionWww@QuestionHome@Com

In the beginning Germany made a non-aggression pact with the USSR and split Poland when Germany invaded!. Then Mussolini went to the Balkens and was getting chewed up, so Germany had to go down there to clean up the mess which pushed the Germans time scale up for the invasion of the Soviet Union!.
