I would think Korea cared a great deal, as America turned its back on Korea and left to it to a forced colonization by Japan which was marked by murders, tortures, political imprisonment, denial of their national identity, sexual assault and rape of women and girls, enslavement of Korean women as 'comfort women' for Japanese soldiers during WWII, looting of the country, starvation for its people!.!.!.!.!.
Don't believe me!? Read this:
A separate agreement (1905) was signed in secret between the United States and Japan at this time, and this subsequently aroused anti-American sentiment among Koreans decades later!. The Taft-Katsura Agreement was cynical by modern standards, exchanging what amounted to a lack of interest and military capability in Korea on the part of the United States (Japan was given a free hand in Korea) for a lack of interest or capability in the Philippines on the part of Japan (Japanese imperialism was diverted from the Philippines)!.
In short!.!.!.America wanted control of the Philippines, so it traded Korea to Japan!.
Korea sent many delegations to the U!.S!. asking for assistance during the occupation which began in 1910!. The U!.S!. feigned sympathy and concern, all the while knowing there was little they could or would do for Korea!.!.!.because they'd secretly signed an agreement saying they wouldn't! It wasn't until 1924, that the Taft-Katsura agreement became public!.

Don't think anyone gave a damn to be honest!. Possibly the British might have not liked the way in which the Royal Family of Hawaii were treated by the Americans!. But, otherwise in the world of buccaneering and piracy, anything goes!.

You'll note that the official Hawaiian flag still retains the British flag in the top left hand corner!.
