We don't know!. The rabbinic tradition mentioned by another contributor is just that - a tradition!. There is no historical basis for it!.

Of course Moses himself is almost a legendary character, so I suppose the rabbinic traditions are as good as any other evidence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
