oh sure, give us the hard questions!.!.!. (lol, jks)

well, if North America was settled by Vikings then we would all be speaking a Norwegian/Swedish dialect, rather than english!.

the Aboriginal groups in N!. America would have been treated a lot more poorly (if not totally wiped out)

Our law would be very different as our law in N!. America is based from British Law, (except for Quebec, Canada where it comes from Napoleanic Law)!. We would instead be following Scandinavian Law!. (which unfortunatly i don't know much of)

I aslo think there would be less immigration, and less use of Slaves!. the Vikings didn't use (black) slaves like th british, and i imagine they would not take very kindly to immigration from Asia, or Africa

also, a very LARGE difference i think would be religion!.-- Vikings were Pagens!. so, assuming the Viking inhabettied all of N!.America, you would not have the same religious "fanatisism" as there is in the USA!. (for example the whole "gay marriage issue wouldn't be an issue-- it would probably be legalized since under Viking Pagen beliefs, homosexuality is not seen to be negative like it is under Christianity)

this brings me to my next point, which of course is Culture!. now, i'm not sure if a country like the USA would still end up with the whole sex culture it has now, but any part of the culture that is caused from Christianity would not exist!. now, again with the homosexual aspect-- homosexuality and bisexuality would be commonplace!. for example, it would be just as normal as a "straight" couple; it would be seen as totally normal, and therefore it would be a lot more common!.

(ps-- if you're wondering why i've used homosexuality as a specific example, its because it's really the first thing that popped into my head, as being someting Christianity really opresses)Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Vikings were great sailors and explorers, but poor settlers!. By which I mean that they never learned to consolidate - but stretched themselves ever thinner and thinner until they lost all cohesion!. In places where they did settle they did so in small numbers and were soon integrated with the local inhabitants!. In the ninth century, for example, they founded the city of Dublin; within a couple of generations they were pretty much Irish!. The same happened when they were granted land in France (Normandy = Land of the Northmen); they settled and became French!.

They did settle briefly in Newfoundland; but could never hope to do so in any numbers!. Eventually their settlement was abandoned - but who can say that some of them didn't stick around and mingle with the native inhabitants to await the next wave of Europeans 500 years later!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Question 2: The fact that the Vikings failed after only expending a little effort, and that Europeans didn't return till 500 years later, meant that Europeans were hardly interested in AMerica at all!.

It took something really important to drag Europeans back to North America, after that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
