Question: Why were the battles of Gettysburg and Vicksburg considered to be turning points in the war!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Vicksburg: Cut the Confederacy in half; with sides west and east of the Mississippi!. Without the railroad mileage of the North, the South relied on navigable rivers for communication and transportation; thus this was a severe blow!.

Gettysburg: The second time a Southern invasion of the North was stopped!. I don't think it signaled the demise of the South so much as it signified the ability of the North to stay in the war!. Before Gettysburg, the North won few battles and England and France were seriously considering recognizing the South and giving aid, after Gettysburg, the North rarely lost a battle and the South was never able to mount another Northern offensive!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
