Encarta Encyclopedia had a great section on African American history!. There is also a great PBS documentary series about this which your local library would be happy to get for you!.
The main contribution of African Americans has not been in the sciences or technology (although there are some outstanding ones - I believe it was an African American MD who discovered blood types), but in culture!. In particular, music!. African music didn't feature much in the way of melody or harmony, because Africans didn't develop these types of instruments!. When slaves were exposed to Western music, they were enchanted with these new elements!. On the other hand Western music was weak on percussion!. African Americans added all kinds of percussion, including poly-rhythms, to Western music!. The result was blues, ragtime, jazz (and the performers here were geniuses), rhythm 'n blues, Motown, and even rock 'n roll!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
