The army was the basis of society and if a leader was favorable with the legions, the rise to power and control was insurmountable!. Caesar created the first triumvirate which was an unofficial alliance between Caesar and 2 others in order to be able to dominate the Roman Politics!. After Caesar's VERY successful military campaigns and becoming extremely popular with the army and Roman Citizens, he began to slowly "get rid" of his the two other consuls!. Ambition, greed and ego lead Caesar to completely under mind the alliance and he was able to crown himself dictator!. His popularity made it impossible for any check of power by the senate!. Needless to say the senate became very weary of Caesar unlimited power!. Even though he was able to accomplish great things for the citizens of Rome and conquered territories he was still blinded by ambition which didn't sit well with Republican Senators!.
