It had a representative Government, which was given to it by the Duke of York, & England in 1691, & has had it ever since!.
as far as the economy- the Colonist, made livings, fur trapping, Lumber trading, Shipping, Slave trading, & as Merchants & Tradesmen!.
Most were Farmers, who cleared their land by hand for crops, corn was popular, as it could be used to feed people, as well as animals!. They also grew Flax, wheat, Vegetables, & tobacco!. Some mined iron, & sent it to England for the manufacturing of finished goods!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It was bought from the Manhattan Indians to the Dutch for cheap!. It was just a colony until major imports and exports came into play!. A key place against the Confederate Army in later years!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
