Question: What do you think about the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki!?
There are archives confirming that Japan was preparing to surrender two days before the atomic bombs!. I must say that this is a fact, I think that it was outrageous the way the americans behaved and acted in that event!. They killed 180!.000 people in between the two cities and they are still suffering until this day!. You must say that the japanese were cruel in that war and I agree, but the armed forces were behaving like this and not the normal people!. It shouldn't have ever happened!. The drop of these atomic bombs was the end of conventional weapons and the beginning of nuclear weapons and still today they are building missiles with the power of 10 times more than the Hiroshima bomb!. Do you think that it was necessary to drop these bombs!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
It was a war crime to equal anything Hitler did!.
The dropping of the bombs was a purely political act to stop the Soviet Union occupying any part of Japan!.
At the Potsdam Conference in July 1945 the Soviet Union agreed to enter the war against Japan on August 8th and the Americans wanted to finish the war by then so that the Soviet Union could not establish a presence in JapanWww@QuestionHome@Com

The Manhatten Project built several bombs!. Most were tested out in the New Mexican desert at Alamagordo!. The only way the bombs could be tested on real people would be to drop them on real cities and Hiroshima and Nagasaki were chosen!.
Diplomatic ties between Japan and the USA had been severed and peace negotiations were dropped in order for hostilities to remain heated enough to warrant the bombs being dropped!.
What I can't understand is why it took TWO bombs of this nature before Japan surrendered!. Surly one would have been enough to provoke and immediate response!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Im pretty sure the japanese moto was until the last man standing!.

Maybe they shouldnt have started the war, Maybe they should have surrended or at least called a cease fire much earlier!.

Why didnt they surrender the day after the first bomb!? It was set on the table they didnt take that option!.

There own fault, as many lives would have been lost on both sides if it wasnt for the atomic bomb, If it wasnt for the americans calling their bluff to the last man!. Their moto didnt seem all to smart at the end!.

I think the problem here is you are anti american but all you will see is figures but not really what happened!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Japan may have been preparing to surrender - but they had not surrendered, nor had they informed the Allies that they were going to surrender!. The papers you refer to were confidential government papers, which were public property at that time!. As far as the Allies were concerned, Japan was prepared to fight to the last man!. they saved a lot of lives, allied and japanese, and just for the record was told about some photo's from the japanese war camps that disgusted me on how cruel the japs were, any one know how quickly bamboo grows!?not a nice death or the game of lets see how many heads we can cut off in one swipe,i aint going to feel sorry for them, how many were killed in germany by conventional bombing!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

That's what the USA does - they did it then, they continue to do it now!. Biggest warmongers and threat to peace the world has ever had!.

Sadly the politicians just call it peace-keeping and they can get away with anything, as the population generally don't question things like we in Europe do!. Nice friendly people who don't mean any harm on an individual level, but just too sheep-like to stop the growing threat!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's worth recalling when washington bangs on about arms proliferation and Iran's nuclear programme, or the threat from North Korea or whatever, that the US, holder of the biggest nuclear arsenal in the world, is the only country to have dropped the bomb in anger, and for no good strategic, let alone moral, reason!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It started a disgusting idea that still lasts today:

Killing civillians of another nation is ok as long as your own troops dont get killed!.

for proof of that look at

Korea
Vietnam
Iran
Libya
Arghanistan
Iraq

etc

collateral damage is just another name for dead children!.

it doesnt matter, it was like over sixty years ago, it hasnt happened since!. what do you exactly want to do about it!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I always thought it was done to impress the Russians!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's all very nice that Japan was preparing to surrender!. Unfortunately, they had not relayed that information through the correct and appropriate channels!. By the way, the fire bombing raids on Kobe and Tokyo were more destructive!. Few people appreciate the anger
built up on the side of the allies after the fighting on the Chinese mainland, and in the previous Iwo Jima and Okinawa battles!. Moreover, the military government had made no such surrender decision; the Imperial government was considering surrender, but no decision had been firmed up!. In any event, the correct procedure would have been to announce a unilaterial truce at the end of July of 1945, and to pass on notice of such a peace feeler, with an eye toward a surrender, through the Swiss or Swedish embassies!. No such effort was made!. Truman and his commanders believed a land battle for the home Islands would result in as many as three million total casualties, over two-thirds of those JAPANESE!. The bombs actually finished the war, and SAVED Japanese lives!. Obviously,
there were also American lives saved!. Had Halsey had his way, Japan would have been entirely depopulated!. The decision was made in Washington, with the best information available, that everything had to done to finish the conflict as soon as possible!. Would you prefer another 2 million Japanese military casualties, or perhaps an empty set of islands!? Those were the alternatives!.
By the way, Japanese radio at the time, and even for 24 hours after the Hiroshima bomb, was still preaching and cautioning that there would be "no surrender, ever, under any circumstances", and spears and pikes were still being handed out to women and children!. "Preparing to surrender" is meaningless drivel!. "Surrendered" is the only salient term which might have
saved those two cities, and neither the Emperor nor the military chief of staff ever passed that word outside the Tokyo prefecture!. This is a specious, synthetic arguement!.

This was a declared war which the Japanese started!. Indeed, it was really about Japanese oil and expansion!. The rectitude of U!.S!. action in this case does NOT in any way justify the absurd VietNamese and Iraqi actions, for example, which are entirely different!. But the ridiculous fantasy that
"preparing to surrender" means something solid about intentions that were NEVER delivered to ANYONE who counted, and yes, these documents DO exist!. But no American, British, or Soviet commander or political figure knew anything about them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Japan really backed itself into a corner when its war machine set off in China prior 1939 and certainly did not help with Pearl Harbour!. On top of that the US carried the brunt of the Pacific campaign and saw at first hand the efforts and death at places like Iwo Jima and Okinawa!. You also have the suicide attacks on ships and personnel!. All this added to the issue of a mainland invasion!. The belligerence shown at the time led no one to believe that there would be a surrender and indeed there was an attempted coup whose supporters wanted to keep on fighting!. So the scene is set for and invasion that would be costly to the US!. Remember, at that time Japan was the enemy!. To invade the mainland would have very very costly!. And if you did win in a land war then the place would be a mess and could well be without its emperor!. Something that would be needed for post war reconstruction!.

Coupled with this Stalin decides to enter the fray!. You now have a land grab from a leader that the West were already aware of in China and a quick end was needed for this AND the paragraph above!.

So, at that time if you were a commander and this weapon was added to your arsenal, you would have used it!. It would have presented a good alternative although the full effects were not realised until after the war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Personally, I think both bombs were a really great shot!. The bombs served the purpose they were built for!. If the Japanese were having second thoughts about throwing in the towel, they forgot all about it after the bombs!. I also feel they should not be allowed to own property, or do business of any kind, in my country!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
