Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
One, he conquered Eygpt, so they had a good incentive to call him
whatever he wanted them to!.

Two, he was seen as a liberator for driving out the Persians, whose
dominance the Eygptians resented!. They declared him a god in a
show of thanks, though its likely that if they hadn't offered he still
would have proclaimed himself a part of their pantheon anyways,
Alexander never could resist the chance to add one more title to
his name!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Egyptians at this point in time were ruled by the Pharaoh who was considered to be a god!. To the Egyptians a ruler had to be a god!. In fact, Alexander knew this and claimed to be the son of Zeus-Amon in front of the Egyptians!. Zeus was a Greek god and Amon was an Egyptian god!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
