No it was not formally a member of the Axis!.

In 1939, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed a non-aggression pact!. That's basically a fancy way of saying "we won't attack each other"!. Part of the pact was that they divide up Poland between them!.

However, there was no formal alliance!. The Soviet Union never declared war on France or the United Kingdom!. I'm not sure they even declared war on Poland!. They just walked in after the Germans had done all the dirty work!.

There was an undeniable air of co-operation between two nations but it was mostly on little things!. For instance, they swapped some land on their new mutual border!. Herman Goering was a avid hunter of Royal Stag (big dear), and the land Germany got in the deal had Royal Stag!.

Basically they drew a line down Europe and said German can do what it likes to the west and the Soviet Union can do what it likes to the East!. Live and let live or in their case, live and let conquer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The answer is no!.

!.!.!.but it was briefly allied to Nazi Germany and invaded Poland a few days after the Germans did - to a line pre-arranged with Germany!.
It also declared war with Finland in 1939, leading to Churchill wanting to declare war on her!.
The Axis was an military agreement with Italy, Romania, Hungary and Japan - the USSR was not a signatory!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

not really, but the USSR under Stalin signed a non-aggression pact (think it was called the Molotov /von Ribbentrop pact after Hitler's chief negotiator, but I may be wrong on that) with Hitler's Germany and they agreed to carve up the territory of Poland between them when Germany invaded Poland in 1939!. Stalin probably realised that the USSR couldn't withstand an attack by Germany at that time and was stalling for time - not least because he'd spent much of the last 10 years purging the Red Army of most of it's most able officers!. To have been a part of the Axis Powers the Soviets would have had to allied themselves with all three Axis nations!. They only allied with Germany!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

no the soviet union was part of the allied powers the whole timeWww@QuestionHome@Com
