He saved the Union, he freed the slaves (13th Amendment) , he expanded the settlement of the United States westward to the Pacific(Pacific Railroad Act and Homestead Act)!.

All of these can be argued as not being so great, depending on your point of view!. Some in the South see him as a tyrant who invaded their country!. The native population certainly have nothing to thank him for concerning expansion of white civilization westward!. Even emancipation of the slaves can be argued against, by a minority I am pleased to say is rapidly decreasing in numbers!.

But Union, Emancipation, and Expansion are the three major qualities that put Lincoln in the upper portions of most lists of presidential rankings!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
