although it was the spark that set the wheels of war in motion i think even if it had not happened some kind of conflict would have occurred!.all of europe was a gigantic armed camp held together by a series of treaties !.the populations of europe were getting very restless and the clamour for social change was becoming unstopable the old orders time was running out one of the main reasons that the different national groups rushed into war was that they had no comprehension of warfare that would be industrialised would be like!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Depends on whether or not Ferdinand would have demanded that all attempts to start international destabilization must halt!.

If ONE person had said that the world was being lead to war and that all of humanity must prevent this from happening, then perhaps the war would have been smaller!.

I agree that there would still have been a war, though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that the greed and hatred that fueled the war would have fueled a war anyhow!. It's hard to put so much of your national treasury into war production, as the German, French, and British did and not have any war to expend it! (Like the US today!) If it wasn't Gavrilo Princip killing Ferdinand (and the lovely Sophia!) then it would have been someone else doing something else!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No different!. War was coming as the conflicts in the Balkans, etc were not going to be resolved otherwise and the assassination of Ferdinand was merely the spark!. Another event would have occurred and ended with the same result!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
