Question: Why did the use of Heavy Calvary decline during and/or after the Hundred Years War!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Two main reasons is the massive expense incurred in keeping large
contingents of cavalry in the field for any extended period of time, and
the fact that cavalrymen came exclusively from the noble classes!. You
couldn't raise large numbers of cavalry using the peasantry because
this was seen as a privilege of the upper classes!. So armies that wanted to win recruited big formations of infantry that were easier to train and equip!. With the advent of gunpowder, massed volleys of musket fire were what won the day, and you couldn't do that from on
top of a horse!.

gunpowder and pikes

infantry was cheaper to maintain!. A square of pikemen could keep the armoured knights away and the muskets would shoot them to pieces!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
