Question: What would you say was Reagan's greatest achievement and greatest struggle!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I would say that his greatest achievement was starting the ball rolling on the end of the Cold War!. He simply got tough on the Russians and their economy couldn't keep up and they eventually ran out of money!.

His greatest struggle I think is that he was irresponsible with the budget!. I believe that his increased spending for defense is probably what caused the recession of the early nineties!.

Greatest achievement: He made Americans proud to be Americans again!. Many Americans were down on the United States after Vietnam, Watergate, Stagflation, and Carter!. Reagan came in with the belief that the United States could be great again, and eventually most people drank the kool-aide!. He also had the (correct) philosophy that the best way to negotiate is through strength, which in turn helped to win the cold war!.

Greatest Struggle: Basically he lost his way as "The Great Communicator" during the aftermath of the Iran-Contra scandal!. It even got to the point where advisers questioned his alertness!. Once he got rid of Donald Regan, Reagan's new adviser won over Nancy and both encouraged Reagan to apologize to the nation, which he did on national television, and he regained most of his popularity with the people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
