Sultan used to rely on them and trusted them over regular army !.They were instrumental in conquering many countries in wars for the Turkish Empire!. Later Janissaries misused their power and they were strong enough to even kill Sultans!. In the year 1826, thery were killed and uprooted completely by the Sultan Mahmud II!. Today Janissaries are no more but for the Music Mehter in their memory in Turkey!.!.
