I wouldn't say we used it for selfish advances!. More we were scared, the USSR was EXTREMELY secretive so we had no idea if their projected prosperity was real (it wasn't), how much their spies had influtrated our boarders (they had, but many of those charged with Communism were not from the USSR or Communist), and they had atomic bomb technology so we could not ignore them!. It was a war of fear, because we did not know what was happening in the USSR, we didn't understand it, and what they said that they believed challenged our way of life dramatically!. Many suffered from the fear, propaganda, and false labels of the Red Scare, but that's what happens when decisions are made out of fear and without information!.

Part 2:

Korea 1950-1953

Most ill advised wars of this time for Communism were fought badly, because we didn't have enough information, and we were too scared to allow Communism to have more power!. Fear has a way of making people make bad decisions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The soviets didn't really want to 'take over the world' per say but, they wanted to spread communism around the world!. Remember, the Cold War was a battle of ideologies that started after World War 2!. I know that under the Truman Doctrine, we planned to help any country either economically or militarily to stop the spread of communism and we did go to Turkey in the beginning of the Cold War, but we did not go into Iran because of tense relationships with Iran!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

By whom!? Right! - By your Communists professors!

There was of course the Berlin Blockade by those noble Soviets back in 1948-49!. There were undoubtedly "activities" conducted by the predecessors to the CIA (OSI and OCI), but things didn't get really get cooking officially till Korea in 1950!.

btw- The fun loving Sov's started recruiting moles/spies -call them what you will - at British and American Universities in the 1920's!. Long before the "Cold War"

@JFK fan--(Hug Brigade)
There is a theory that your beloved JFK was recruited at Oxford and was a Soviet Sleeper Mole!. So its really not a question of which group (Mafia, Cubans, Soviets, CIA, LBJ) did the hit in Dallas, but how many groups were involved!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

After 2nd world war, when British empire started to Collapse,
the world emerged to be influeneced by two extremely new forces!. The US moved in Europe when the nazi confidenec had started to recieve blows in the east in the hands of russinas!. Of coures, US helped France and other western european countries to be liberated!. However, it remains questionable, what would happen had Hitler won the battles in Russian cities!.

There is no question that, USSR was interested in spreading their ideas and so they did a lot to establish new socialist states in eastern Europe!. After the death of imperialism in Asia and South America, some youngmen started to believe that Socialism might be the wayout of Poverty and Oppression!. USSR was trying to capitalize this right or wrong realization!. However, the intention was to export ideas, and thus to enhance the domain of influence; there is no concrete evidence to believe that they had a different set of interests!.

Communist principles are against the ideas of what US is!. Naturally, being a major power, US had efforts to stand up against these ideas!. On the other hand, US was dependent on the cheap lobor and vast land resources of Central and South Ameica (like United Foods used to depend on for growing fruits)!. As such, US sponsored some coups (like in Guetemala) to oust somewhat socialist governments who decided to nationalize land and mines!.

Its true that, US entered IRAN, however, US never actively entered Afriacan poor states where strong communist takeover signs were present!. I should not say that USSR intentions were angelic as well!. Overall, looking back, its not very hard to comment on why US used to claim " Soviets are trying to take control over the World"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

None during the 40's, it started in the 50's with Korea!.

It was during Eisenhower's administration that the whole Domino theory came into existence, which even he found preposterous!.

FYI, Eisenhower, 5 star general, was the first to warn about the military industrial complex, and home-boy was a general!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
