West Virginia, and Nevada are the only ones to gain statehood during the Civil War, Kansas was granted statehood just before the war broke out in 1861 but not during it!.

All the Confederate states rejoined the Union after the war but between 1865 and 1877 only Nebraska and Colorado were granted statehood!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Let me just add that although the Civil War started because the north claimed that secession was treason and should be outlawed, the Lincoln government seized the opportunity to encourage the western counties of Virginia to secede from the parent state and form a new state that would be loyal to the union and give him electoral college votes to ensure he was reelected in 1864!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nevada was admitted in 1864, and the motto was "Battle Born"!. There was a LOT of silver that the Union didn't want the South to get! There weren't enough people to be a state, so it was an exception!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
