Unlike when you recall your age, centuries are referred to by years between, for example year 1-100 = 1st century Common era!.
101-200 = 2nd C!.
201-300 = 3rd C!. etc!.
Interestingly there was no year 0!.
it went from 1BC to 1AD, also BC & AD are generally not accepted amongst academic historians, in a world than doesnt all subscribe to the birth of Christ its generally referred to as Common Era, CE or Before CE!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The first guy is ALMOST right, except that the first century DID have a one as its beginning, and it ran 1 to 100!. That's why each new century starts the year after you assume it will (ie, the 21st century started January 1, 2001, not Jan 1, 2000), and why it's the 21st century now!.

Burt like he said, the 18th Century is the 1700's, the 4th Century is the 300's, etc!. It stays just as confusing in the BCE years!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Always remember that you never start counting at zero (zed)!. You don't hold up a finger and say "No oranges, (hold up two fingers and say) one orange, (three fingers and say) two oranges!.!.!." because you'd be holding up three fingers, and have only two oranges!

Since we never start counting at zero, then there was no "Zero century" nor "year zero!." The first century started in the year 1, and ended in the year 100!. The second century started in the year 101, and ended in the year 200!. You never start counting with zero, so the third century did NOT start in 200, but in 201, and ended in 300!.

I hope this helps!.!.!.don't start with zero, and all else falls in place!. People like me did NOT celebrate the 21st Century until it began - in 2001!Www@QuestionHome@Com

the first century ad begins with the year 1 ad and terminates with the year 100 ad the second century begins with the year 101 an terminates with the year 200 and you just continue in that fashion the century is always a little behind what you might think it is for instance 1550 is in the 16th century and 1865 is in the 19th century it's not all that complicated or difficult!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the century is always one more than the year e!.g!.

the 1900's are the twentieth century
the 1700's are the 18th century and so on!.

this is because the first century AD didn't have a 1 as first digit (i!.e!. years 0-99)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
