the location of italy was a great trading point between many countries and travelers brought new ideas and customs with them which enriched the people there so that they started thinking more about the arts and learning new things in science, when europe and other countries were in war and more foccused on gaining land than they were on being rich and inteligent!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Urban life continued into the Middle Ages, well after the rest of Europe passed into the Dark Ages!. This was because she was heavily urbanized in Roman times, and so had a large proportion of walled cities -which were easily defended!.

Italy kept up trade networks with the Arab world, while the rest of Europe forbid trade with Muslims, leaving her open to new development in arts and sciences!.

Travelling monks from Ireland brought books with them, preserving knowledge of classical times, as far south as Bari; in the 'toe' of Italy!.

For a number of reasons!. Italy had money because it was in easy reach of Arab and Byzantine trade routes!. More money = more spending on the arts and sciences!. The fact that Roman and Greek ruins were right there further inspired the Italians!. They thought that classical ideals may be applied to current problems to reach a solution!. Finally, Italy never really had a definitive ruler, rather, it was cut up into small city states that were each ruled by a different family of aristocrats!. Thus, no one person could completely limit the ideas of the people, unlike in, say, France or England!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Italy had contact with Ancient Greece and Rome!. Rome is in Italy!. The books and therefore ideas of Greece and Rome were easily obtained by the Italians!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
