As soon as you start a question with "What if!.!.!." then you're on dangerous ground!. There is no right answer!.

In the Pacific, war between Japan and the US was pretty much inevitable!. Curiously, there is much to support the argument to say that Japan would've done better had they not attacked Pearl!. The US navy's plan in the event of war was to seek a battleship-led confrontation in the Pacific!. Had six aircraft-carrier loads of planes jumped the US fleet in mid ocean rather than a shallow harbour (all but two of the ships damaged at Pearl later returned to active service), a greater advantage might've arisen!. However, if WW2 taught us anything it was that the crucial weapon was industrial muscle, and there the US wins hands-down!.

In Europe, D-Day could not have happened without US men and materiel; so the war would've been fought to a conclusion in Russia!. On the same industrial-muscle basis, Russia would've crushed Germany!. As for the shape of port-war Europe - that's a whole new can of worms!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The US entry into the war not only supplied the allied with valuable troops and supplies but also provided a signifigant boost in moral!. All that happened at Stalingrad was that the Russians stopped the German advance East!. The Germans still controlled most of Western Europe and would have eventually either taken England or bombed it into the ground!. also, the Japanese would have been able to advance West into Russia!. The Russians would not have been able to fight on both fronts and would have crumbled!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Russians would still have beat the Germans!. We entered after Stalingrad, and had just landed in Italy when the battle of Kursk was finishing up!. The British and Canadians could have held their own against Germany, but it would have cost them a lot more in blood and treasure!. Italy was almost a non issue by the time we landed!. The US enetering in Europe just sped up Germany's end!. It also prevented a protracted stalemate that could have lasted years with the redrawing of the map to end the war (instead of unconditional surrender)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
