The Red Army was not afraid of losses because it had a bigger army and could afford more losses!. Stalin also controled Russia with a iron fist, so Russia had to tolerate the casualties!. In America, too much casualties would lead to the replacement of the Govt!., and that wouldn't be wanted!.
The Red Army played an integral part in the war, but it was because they were forced to, and it is easy to say all this after the victory!. The Red Army and Russia would have collapsed if it wasn't due to Hitler's stupidity in not attacking Moscow in the first winter, Japan not attacking Russia, and the Allies distracting Germany so the Germans couldn't fully commit to Russia!. Whatever the Red Army may or may not had at the end of WWII, it certainly lacked one thing that the US Army had: Nuclear Weapons!.

In short, the US Army would have won any military engagement with the Soviet Union at the end of the war, so the US Army was stronger!.

One of the main reasons Truman decided to drop the Atomic Bomb was, Russia was about to get into the war with Japan after the defeat of Germany and Truman KNEW it would EVENTUALLY mean the US had to face RUSSIA in a shooting war!.!.!. and Truman KNEW THE U!.S!.
