It isn't "a" British cabinet but rather 'the' British cabinet!. They are the people surrounding the Prime Minister or King!. They are the most important members of the PM's staff!. They act as advisers, and help with the duties of state!. The American President also has a cabinet!. His consists of the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, etc!. They are comparable to the Advisers and Counselors of long ago!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The British Cabinet is the government of the United Kingdom, they are members of Parliament (Lower House) Chosen by the Premier Minister (who is leader of majority party and elected to Parliament) to be Ministers (US = Secretaries )!.
The Major difference between US and UK is !.!.!.!. Ministers are elected, as are Representatives, but for a maxi mun of 5 years, or until the Premier calls a General Election!. All the Ministers and the Premier Minister represent a constituency as well as their governmental duties!. So the British Executive comes from Parliament and is not named by the Head of State (as in US) and approved by the Parliament!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
