yessss, but this is very much my opinion, as it is obvious to me that 9/11 was in fact orchestrated for the most part by our government just look up 9/11 bombs on youtube, by the way im assuming u mean the USA, and also the government spews out propaganda about how great this country is in forms of public eduction, speeches etc, but since they would get complicated for homework, i would say no, just because our government doesn't kill people blatantly and "holds" elections that change who's in power, a good example of a Machiavellian state would probably be China as free speech is crushed often, they stay in power by whatever means necessary,so just say no its not a Machiavellian country but u still might want to make sure u get a very clear definition of Machiavellian!. I would say so!. Machiavelli is often seen as evil, but really he was just pragmatic and understood that a leader must be strong and look out for the strength of his nation!. Otherwise neither he nor his nation would survive!.

One thing Machiavelli said was that a ruler must be willing to break promises!. We can see that in the current campaign, such as when Obama went back on his word to stick with public campaign financing!. With the cash advantage he later built up over McCain, he would've been stupid to limit himself in that way!.

Another example is the Mexican War!. This was a war of choice and aggression against Mexico, a weaker neighbor!. After it was over the US owned the whole southwest - California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah!. The US wanted this territory and so took it without real justification!. Pretty Machiavellian in my mind!.

The US has done many other things along this line, like overthrowing popular elected governments in Chile and Iran in order to support dictators willing to follow the US!.

America has some high ideals and frequently acts on them!. But it's also been brutally pragmatic at times too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
