I find a lot of ancient South American tribes, Japanese, and aspects of the ancient Roman and Greek cultures very fascinating, especially the spirituality and ancient deities they once payed homage to very fascinating!. How about yourself!? What ancient (or current) group, country, and/or culture do you find the most fascinating and why!? = ) Www@QuestionHome@Com Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Whatever I have the best access to at the moment!. I especially like Chinese and Irish cinema, Scandinavian literature, Japanese aesthetics, and traditional musics and modern/trad fusions from Scotland, Sweden, Brittany, Hungary, Romania, the Balkans, and the Jewish and Rrom diasporas!. Japan is one culture that I keep going back to, not in person yet, but through books and films; an area of especial interest is the geisha, communities of women in a very male dominated society!. I'm living in Scotland now, and reinvigorated with the vitality, creativity and expressiveness of the trad music scene, and also how all of that fits into the ways that Scots and Gaels see and define themselves!. Last year it was trad/modern hybrids in the musics of south-eastern Europe!. Why!? I guess it's because all of these groups are finding ways to live with complex identities and with a foot in two worlds, as it were, and to work in dialogue with past traditions and the madness of the modern world!.Www@QuestionHome@Com *Russian (I don't know why, but I find the Tsars of Russia so much more interesting then any of the European monarchs!. Plus it has such a vast history from its monarchs to its communist rule!. It's just!.!.!.wow) *China (I've been into China's cultural revolution and more or so, its 20th century history, more then anything!. I find it weird how the Chinese basically to get rid of their own [great, might I add] history and killed a ton of intellcuals!. Sad period in their history!. Although chairman mao before the CR actually did a lot for China) *Ancient Rome (Lust, Envy, Greed, Gluttoney, Rage, Vanity, Sloth!. It has all the seven deadly sins! How can you not like that!?!?) *French (What got me into French history was The French Revolution and Napoleon [which if you get the chance, READ about it!], but I read more into it and its one of those monarchs that also had an interesting history) *South American history(Particulary the Spanish/African's influence on our culture!) *Catholics (I find us catholics to have an interesting history, from its idols to the past popes!. I think its interesting) Www@QuestionHome@Com I have to say the Byzantines because they lasted for more than a thousands years while the Other half of the Roman Empire and while dozens of different cultures attacked them until the Ottomans destroyed them in 1453!. I also find the French very interesting!. Their ethnogenesis from being Franks and Gaulish Celts to the modern people of France is very fascinating if not amazing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Egyptian history fascinates me!. But to be honest, I think it's more the appeal of understanding the lost languages, which is why I also like a lot of South American lost cultures!. Pretty much any culture with pictograms for that matter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I love ancient Egyptian and Celtic culture!.
