Types of war!? ok so I have to write a essay explaining how the American Revolution was was a revolution, a war for colonial independence, a civil war, and a world war!. I know how it was a revolution and a war for colonial independence but how was it a civil war and a world war!. My teacher already said that it was both so dont say that it wasnt, I need to know how it was!. Exmples would be geatly appreciated!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It was a civil war because some Americans wanted to be independent but some didn't, so they fought each other as much as they fought the Brits!. We're taught in history that about 1/3 of Americans wanted independence, 1/3 wanted to stay British, and 1/3 didn't much care!. But in fact it was more like 1/2 that wanted independence and a small fraction, maybe 1/8, who wanted to stay British!. These people found their homes burned, they got beat up, their daughters and wives got raped, stuff like that!. It was a world war because it was fought around the world!. The real first world war was the war that came before that, we call it the French and Indian War, but it was actually fought between the British and the French, and it was fought all over the world where the Brits and French fought over new territories and colonies!. The Revolutionary War was also a 'world war' because the French helped us!. American warships attacked British shipping both for much needed supplies and to choke off supplies are reinforcements from reaching British soldiers in America!. British war ships also attacked American shipping to choke off supplies from the Revolutionary armies!. France was an armed neutrality supplying arms to the Revolutionary armies!. French privateers attacked British shipping!. As for it being a civil war!. That can best be stated by the number of militia who fought along side the British soldiers against the revolutionary armies!. The was a large body of people who were against the Revolution and sided with the British!. They often fought with the British against their fellow Americans!. The classic revolution requires a group of people that wanted to completely overthrow their government, tear down everything that was already institutionalized through out the decades, and start from scratch!. Some examples would be the Russia Revolution and the French Revolution!. The French Revolutionists even changed the names of the months and days on a calendar!. What happened in America was different!. The initial goal was not to govern themselves and break away, most people believe that was foolish!. However, when push came to shove, they decided to draft the Declaration of Independence!. The "New England-ers" were only distressed because of over taxation and more famously, "taxation without representation"!. They had no say in governmental affairs and were treated like second class citizens!. When the first continental congress was formed (the congress was formed to discuss methods of action against this type of mistreatment), the delegates of each colony would still say "God save the King"!. They only wanted to modify the fact that they were treated as second class citizens!. However, after petition and petition, the King refused the pleas!. This convinced the New England-ers to sign their own declaration of independence!. The system of American law was derived from the English law, so you can see how they did not radically change from the English ways!. It was considered a civil war because of the fact that all of the New England colonies were subjects of the royal crown!. It was a population of mistreated "citizens" who turned against their own government with hopes of liberation!. Technically, any revolution is a civil war!. Revolutions come from within, all subjects of the same nation fighting one another!. You could say that it was a world war because many other nations were involved!. The Americans sent minister plenipotentiaries and ambassadors to foreign nations in order to seek aid!. For example, most famously, the Americans turned to the French because of the French's long rivalry against Britain!. Because of this, they believed that they would join their cause - they shared a common cause"!. The Americans also sent ministers and ambassadors to the Dutch and Russia, seeking financial aid!.
