Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
First the Nazis were a religion unto itself and Germany was predominately Lutheran , Protestant, Country while Austria, Poland, Croatia, and Italy, which was taken over after 1943, were Roman Catholic!. Italy was Roman Catholic but the Allies always tried to keep from bombing Cathedrals and Roman Ruins, they even went so far as to put Catholic Priests in the lead plane so that the bombs wouldn't fall on them by mistake!. As fort he Vatican being against the Allies it was neutral and actually smuggled Jews out of occupied Europe by issuing them passports signed by the Pope!. Spain was neutral because Franco was adroit in staying that way as Spain was still recovering from it's Civil War!.

As for Japan's war with the US that was over 80 years in the making and it was a real live race war!. The Japanese knew that there would be a war between the US and Japan in1906 when the US brokered a peace treaty to end the Russo-Japanese War by 1940 the animosity between the two nations had come to a head and Japan's Militarists began to plan for a war with the US!.
