Hundreds of millions of years ago, Australia was connected to east India in what is now the Bay of Bengal!. Homo Sapiens migrated there when there was still a land bridge, probably during the Ice Age when they were forced to seek warmer climates to the south!. It's important, I guess, because if they hadn't colonized Australia, we wouldn't have Olivia Newton John, Mel Gibson, Crocodile Dundee, boomerangs or didgeridoos!.
