A long time!. The earliest record I know of is in the Bible when Abraham went to Sodom and Gomorrah!. It's recorded in Genesis chapter 18!. Which was around give or take 50 years, 1900BC!. Homosexuality probably dates to long before that though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Homosexuality has always been "practised", however, not in the open!. The explanation for this is quite easy!. Social restrictions and prejudices have always criticized and chased down these groups, and in general, the society has shown disrespectful and intolerant attitudes toward those who are considered the "others"!.!. In Greek Ancient times, as well as in the Roman culture and all the ancient civilizations in general the human body and sexuallity were not regarded as taboo!. However, not to cover your sexual preferences during the Middle Ages up to the Enlightment period, would have been deadly!. Even in the late 19th c!. Oscar Wilde was sent to jail for his homosexual preferences!. The process of tolerance toward this group emerged in the second half of the 20th century and still continues!. Nowadays people say that homosexuals are OK but for the spectacle or something; nobody seems to care that Elton Jhones and George Michael are gay; or that maybe something happened between Mick Jagger and David Bowie cause they're artists, it's show business; but if we have already got rid of prejudices: is the world prepared to accept a president or chief of police gay!? or that Prince Charles turns out to be gay and heirs the throne!? I do not thinks so! Maybe your question has other orientation and you wanted to know since when the sexual and eventually homosexual impulses have been present in the human being!. What is your question!? I had a school friend in the 50s whose Grandmother was called Gay!. We might have once said, 'and a gay time was had by all!.'
The word means light-hearted, exuberant!.
If you mean homosexual, then it is probably as old as time itself!. Certainly the ancient Greeks indulged in the practise, with no stigma attached!.
