Question: A Berlin Wall Question!?
I was wondering, how come when the wall was put up, the West Berliners were so certain the US was going to save them!? Like, were they in alliance with the US, or what!? I just need to know for an assignment!.

Berlin had been partitioned after World War II by the British, American, French and Soviets!. The Cold War that developed afterwards that caused the division of Germany also affected Berlin, but because of the partitioning of Berlin, Western Berlin, was considered to be part of the Federal Republic of Germany, which developed along western capitalist lines!. It was strongly supported by NATO and American foreign policy, because it was a front-line challenge to a drive for Soviety domination in Eastern Europe!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you're missing the historical point!. It wasn't a protectionist move!. Germany was divided after WW II (ended in 1945) by a confrontation between the Communist bloc and NATO (US was part of it, but so were many other countries)!. The Berlin wall was erected in August 1961 by the Soviets to stop the massive number of people who were fleeing the communist East Berlin for West Berlin!.

The People of West Berlin were, in affect, protected and supported by NATO (including the US) long before the Berlin wall went up!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
