Question: Which side did the Irish Brigade fight for, during the civil war!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Union

The Irish Brigade was an infantry brigade that served in the American Civil War, consisting predominantly of Irish immigrants!. The designation of the first regiment in the brigade, the 69th New York Infantry, or the "Fighting 69th", continued in later wars!. They were known in part for their famous warcry, the "faugh a ballagh", which is an old Gaelic phrase, fág an bhealach, meaning "clear the way"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It was a New York outfit, the 69th, I think!. They are also called the Black Hat Brigade!. Bruce Catton's Civil War trilogy follows the Black Hats from beginning to end!.

Remember that there were Irish men fighting on both sides!. Bonny Blue Flag was once sung about Dear old Donegal!.

I have heard they were under Hooker!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
