Question: Did you know McCain voted against MLK day as a holiday!?
Why change it now, it's been a nationally recognized holiday for years!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Yes!. Arizona was one of the last states to make it a holiday!.

What's her point!?!? Are you serious!?!?

It's one black holiday!.!.!.ONE!.

For the one American most important to African-Americans and the civil rights movement!.

It's a CRIME that it was not a national holiday sooner!.

Umm!.!.!.Lil Miss Mindy!.!.!.Vietnam was not going to invade us any time soon!. I don't think McCain being a POW had ANYTHING to do with us having the right to vote!. Vietnam was us cleaning up France's colonial mess!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

So MLK is a "black holiday"!? And it's the only one!? What about Kwanzaa, the made up holiday for African Americans!?
How many "white holidays" are there!? I'm asking about holidays specific to white people only, ones that blacks don't celebrate!.
We have February as Black History month!. Which one is Caucasian History Month!? Which one is Asian History month!? What about Hispanic History month!?
How can we unite as Americans when we continuously divide ourselves!? How can we have exclusively black institutions or exclusively black funding programs when the very existence of an overtly exclusive whites only institution or funding program is rascist!? Why does race still have to be an issue!? It's one of the most embarassing things about our country!. I fear our current presidential election will boil down to another race issue!.
This question itself was meant to stir up racial prejudice against McCain!. Is this a deciding issue when you're get out to vote in November!? Not for me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Excellent answer !.Littlebizzle ,very well worded and thought out!.!.!.also does anyone think its a coindicence that Mccain voted against MLK day is suddently being discussed when his opponent is a black canidate, prely another attempt to divide the voters racially ,rather than facts and whats best for the country!.!.!.there never was any reason for MLK day, except to curry favor with some minority groups and voting against another federal holiday, especially one of questionable merit ,doesnt say anything good or bad about McCain,!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This kind of meaningless information is disinformation at its finest!. So did Reagan!. So did over half of Congress, the first time it was suggested!. So what!? Frankly, I never saw the point of MLK Day in the first place!. We had enough Federal Holidays (Christmas three weeks prior, and President's Day a month later), and it only came about because labor unions wanted another paid day off!.

But it's a federal holiday now, and McCain ended up encouraging Arizona to adopt it, so what is your point!?

Did you know McCain was detained, beaten and tortured for years for this country's continued right to vote on anything!?

**ELMYR: The concept behind Vietnam was not that they were a DIRECT threat as an invading enemy!. In the Vietnam War, the most important goal was to prevent the "Communist Domino" effect!. I'm sure there were other reasons though!. This was a phrase used to describe the subsequent fall of democracies to communist takeovers in a region surrounding a country that had become communist or socialist!. Just like the Eastern European countries and the current trend in S!. America, (Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador!.)!.***Www@QuestionHome@Com

Thanks for pointing that out!. (By the way, wasn't recognized in ALL states till the year 2000!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hes a looser!. I bet he'd be pissed if someone voted against veterans day!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I did not know about it!.
I don't really like McCain and his VP!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Perhaps I heard that but forgot!. That would have been some years
ago!. I don't think it is up for a vote now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
