well first of all you have to narrow your criteria a bit, was it war on the eastern or western fronts!?
you can make points on the german schiefin plan which called for immediate and decisive millitary mobiliztion through belgium and into france!. and how this plan failed after the germans were stoped at the 1st battle of marne!. this then lead to brutal, bloody and slow paced trench warfare which essentially charicterized the rest of the war on the w!. front!.
on the eastern front you can talk about how the russians were intially sucessful using large numbers to smash into east prussia and austrian galicia, however they were quickly pressed out by geman genrals luddendorf and hindenburg!. due to there small and inefectual industral abillities they were unable to support a massive war effort, in fact there were some cases where russian troops were not issued rifles at all, insted they were given a clip of amunition and told to pick up the riffle of a fallen commerade!. eventually after the russian revolution in 1917 the russians became communist under lenin and retierd from the war effort!.
you can talk about how the war was started in the balkans region after the assassination of austrian arch duke franz ferdinand by the serbian terorist group "the black hand" this then caused the austrians to demand justice, eventually invading the region!. afterward the serbs called to their russian allies in who mobileizied against the austro-hungarian empire!. this cause the germans, who were alies of the austrian to mobilize, which cause the french and brits to mobelize and yeah!. big mess
you can also talk about the 2 sided of the war!. there was the entente powers of france, england, and russia!.
and the central powers of germany, the austrian-hungarian empire, and the ottoman empire!.
hopefully this helped you a little if you need more help feel free to send me a message, id be happy to help :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Three Really Good Points - hmm, that's a toughie, but you can choose from the following

_ It was the DEADLIEST war in the history of the WORLD!. (over 40 million casualties & 20 million military/civilian deaths)
^ trench warfare, machine guns, chemical warfare ]-- all of these factors contribute to this factor

_ although war was declared after Sebian nationalists assasinated the archduke Franz Ferdinand, there were a number of causes precipitating the war
^^^ [incuding an arms race between Great Britain & Germany, plans, distrust, and mobilization between European countries, militarism and autocracy throughout Europe, balance of power [especially political power], economicimperialism (caused by the colonization of Africa) trade barriers, and ethnic and political rivalries!.]

_ it was a WORLD WAR [i know it sounds redundant,] but this situation should NOT have escalated into a WORLD war >> it was an issue between certain countries - while Germany & Britain were having their differences, they should have resolved their problems on their own while the Balkan nations should have negotiated peace!.

_ GENOCIDE! the Armenian Genocide occurred at the hands of the Ottoman Turks --> it was led against the Armenians (who were Christian); over 1!.5 MILLION Armenians were killed!! [check the link for more war crimes!!!]

_ lastly >> the war treaty negotiated at the end of this war was INCREDIBLY INFLUENTIAL!. it set off more problems than it started with >> although the US did have an economic boom throughout the 20s, much of Europe faced depression; the war reparations debt led to the collapse of German currency & poverty in Germany & eventually a WORLDWIDE depression (it began in late 1929 for the US) most importantly, it set up World War II >> the war guilt clause (and the debt) allowed Hitler to rise and caused World War II (and the Holocaust)

hope that helps (:Www@QuestionHome@Com

The war was propagated by two major alliances!. The Entente Powers initially consisted of France, the United Kingdom, Russia, and their associated empires and dependencies!. Numerous other states joined these allies, most notably Italy in April 1915, and the United States in April 1917!. The Central Powers, so named because of their central location on the European continent, initially consisted of Germany and Austria-Hungary and their associated empires!. The Ottoman Empire joined the Central Powers in October 1914, followed a year later by Bulgaria!. By the conclusion of the war, only The Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain and the Scandinavian nations remained officially neutral among the European countries, though several of those may have provided financial and materiel support to one side or the other!.

The fighting of the war mostly took place along several fronts that broadly encircled the European continent!. The Western Front was marked by a system of trenches, breastworks, and fortifications separated by an area known as no man's land!.[5] These fortifications stretched 475 miles (more than 600 kilometres)[5] and precipitated a style of fighting known as trench warfare!. On the Eastern Front, the vastness of the eastern plains and the limited railroad network prevented the stalemate of the Western Front, though the scale of the conflict was just as large!. There was heavy fighting on the Balkan Front, the Middle Eastern Front and the Italian Front; there were also hostilities at sea and in the air!.

The war was ended by several treaties, most notably the Treaty of Versailles, signed on 28 June 1919, though the Allied powers had an armistice with Germany in place since 11 November 1918!. One of the most striking results of the war was a large redrawing of the map of Europe!. All of the Central Powers lost territory, and many new nations were created!. The German Empire lost its colonial possessions and was saddled with accepting blame for the war, as well as paying punitive reparations for it!. The Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman empires were completely dissolved!. Austria-Hungary was carved up into several successor states including Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia!. The Ottoman Empire disintegrated, and much of its non-Anatolian territory was awarded as protectorates of various Allied powers, while the remaining Turkish core was reorganized as the Republic of Turkey!. The Russian Empire, which had withdrawn from the war in 1917 after the October Revolution, lost much of its western frontier as the newly independent nations of Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland were carved from it!. After the war, the League of Nations was created as an international organization designed to avoid future wars by giving nations a means of solving their differences diplomatically!. World War I ended the world order which had existed since the end of the Napoleonic Wars, and was an important factor in the outbreak of World War II

1!. It began the emergence of the US as a world superpower!.

2!. It led to the League of Nations which was a precursor to the United Nations!. This led to the US moving away from isolationist policies!.

3!. It eventually led to World War Two due to the crippling effects on European economies!. This led to the worldwide economic depression of the late 20's-early 30's!. Of course this led to the Nazis winning big in the German election of 1932 and Hitler as Chancellor!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
