Question: How did the Western Roman Empire fend once the Roman legions abandoned it!?
HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION: Odo and Hedwiga are farmers in the Western Roman Empire!. They live with their children in a valley surrounded by mountains, and opens out into the sea!. They grow wheat, then raft down the river to sell the wheat!. Usually, there are merchants in the town to buy their crop and they use that money to buy supplies!. One year, Odo rafts down the river but discovers the town is empty!. He finds out from a local farmer that the roman legions have abandoned the Western Roman Empire because it has become too expensive to defend against Barbarians!. Keep in mind that Odo and Hedwiga and their ancestors have not been out of the valley for hundreds of years!. They only hear about the Roman Empire and the Emperor!. They have no idea where Rome is or where they are!. Are they on an island!? They don't know!. How do you save Odo and Hedwiga!? Please consider all the problems they might face, including but not limited to not knowing geography and Barbarians!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not a lot one can do!. Odo and Hedwiga are peasants!. The best they arm themselves with is are a few knifes and a homemade wooden spear!. Neither had any military training as how to use those crude weapons!. They (likely) live in a wooden hut, which is undefensible!.
Hopefully, their valley is remote enough not to attract attention of the barbarians!. If not, they almost certainly meet a very nasty end!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
