The Hundred Years war was the most important part on deciding who was at the height of power between these times, simply because it lasted so long and involved so many intricate, small confrontations but three strong deciding ones!. Beginning in 1337 and ending in 1453 these three main battles were plessy, crecy and agincourt!. The English winning all three in fact, but with substantial loses to both sides!. However, Joan of Arc, who claimed she could speak to the Lord himself, invoked much morale into the French legions who once again brought upon an offensive!. Under her rule in battle they overcame the English at the siege of Orleans and numerous other occasions!. Obviously this would have been very demoralizing for English Generals and the situation got much out of hand despite their well fought, previous victories!. Eventually the French removed English provinces from mainland Europe and regained total control of all land!. With their towns seized and armies discontent on travelling to continue the conflict the war ceased but the brutal memories remained!. From this, I can only conclude that the French were very much in power over the British until the distant future, yet that is another story!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

france peaked in the middle-late 17th century, and britain during the 19th, so the height of power for both was after the middle ages!. Throughout those five centuries, power was constantly shifting based on a delicate balance of power attitude held by the nations!. Britain regularly tried to entire spain or the Holy Roman Empire to antagonize france and keep it in check, while the french did the same with aid to the scots, irish, and occasionally even the welsh!. Although alliances could cross thousands of miles, as fights broke out between both britain and france during the crusades, leading to attempts at forging alliances with the sejulik turks, the byzantines, and even the timurids!. At their heights though, and I verified this through extensive perusing of Medieval: Total War, the French had a larger rep for their elite calvary while the English for their superb archers!. Overall, I'd say the French though, due to their large, populous nation being located directly on the continent!. Although I don't want to dismiss the english, who gave us the popular 'middle finger' to show that their men could still pull back the drawstring on a longbow!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
