boucou dinki dow ( you big crazy), we had a hot LZ (landing zone under fire) and had to call in a fast flier (jet) to burn out (napalm) the VC (Viet Cong) and NVA (North Vietnamese Army) before we had a dust off (retrieval by helicopter) for the wounded!. The door gunners fired of the Huey fired on a hooch (shack) we were receiving fire from!. We then had to hump it (march with packs) 10 miles before pick up!. We were near the DMZ (demilitarized zone)!. We had the help of some yards (montagard tribesmen)!.
Sorry I don't have any paper so I wrote on this rat box top (ration box) and sent it!. It is hot in country( in Vietnam)!. The 'Nam is really hot and humid, and there is no AC anywhere for the grunts (soldiers)!. Still another month before my Freedom bird (flight home after tour of duty)!.
They tried to give me the sixty, but I stayed with my thumper- it is safer!. ( they tried to make him the M 60 machine gunner, but he stayed with his grenade launcher)!. The sixty goes behind the point ( is second in line on a trail) and draws fire fast!. We lost Joe to a punji stake (poisoned bamboo stake hidden along a trail)- he got sent home!. Bill lost a foot to a toe popper (booby trap or mine with small explosive charge)!. Million dollar wounds-( home alive) anyway!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
