The working classes, or the sans culottes and the Bourgeoisie, were demanding more legal rights and reforms within the French government!. The sans culottes and the Bourgeoisie were both members of the artisan/merchant class, and as such were better off and more educated than the peasantry!. These groups were aware of the gross inequalities that existed under the old feudal Ancien Régime, as well as the unfair taxation that existed under the monarchical government!.

When France began suffering the financial crises caused by aiding the American rebels in the American Revolution, and the shortage of bread caused by bad harvests and drought, the working classes demanded a summoning the Etats Generaux (Parliament)!. They refused to any further taxation without equal representation and the abolishment of Absolute Monarchy and the unequal aristocratic priviledges of the Ancien Régime!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
