The French and Indian War or Seven Years' War as known in Europe was a very costly war for Britain, although it was victorious and gained ownership of French territories in North America, it left the treasury in a dire state!. The British of course to compensate started to directly tax the colonists (Stamp Act)!. These angered the colonists because they were not represented in Parliament and so taxing without representation was preposterous in their eyes!.

Another way to increase revenue, was through Mercantilism in which the colonies were only allowed to trade with Britain and its colonies!. At this time before the F&I war, Britain had little involvement with colonial life, and so this meddling was not greatly appreciated!.

Aside from that the French lands that were ceded were for a temporary time off-limits for the colonist to settle as stated in the Proclamation of 1763!. This was a precautionary act so as to protect the colonists from hostile Indians that inhabited the western lands and also to protect the interests of the British empire as a whole!. Remember at this time, the war bankrupted the British and if there was any altercation between the colonists and the Indians, the British would have to intervene and it would mean more expenses!. However, this angered the colonists because they believed that they were entitled to settle in these lands as it was in fact now British lands!. They thought they were being prevented of their rights when in reality, the British were looking out for them!.

These were one of the many reasons that gradually tainted British reputation and made them all the more unpopular in the colonies and ultimately leading to the American Revolution!.

also partly, the war was responsible in preparing Americans for the Revolution!. They had first-hand experienced how it was to be armed and fight in a collective group and how to lead!.
