basically the uk couldn't afford it ,and as for the borstal question the blo-dy do gooders got to the government so there 's no deterrent to the wave of violence sweeping the country because nobodies frightened of jail juvenile detention or anything like that ---net result anarchy but the powers that be say Britain's okWww@QuestionHome@Com

The public was against National Service because the wars were unpopular and seen upon as unecesarry!. Borstals were seen as too cruel!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Britain could no longer afford it and didn't have the Empire to justify it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
