Technically he did, but actually he didn't!. George III, despite his bad press in US history books, was a very dedicated to being a constitutional monarch!. It was Parliament who issued the proclamation, but formally, the King issues it on the advice of his ministers!.

That aside!. He agreed with it!. Basically, Britain had just fought a 7 year war where they took on most of the major powers in Europe!. They won, but just barely!. It had near bankrupted them!.

They knew that continued colonial encroachment on Indian territories would lead to war!. So, the proclamation was made to keep the peace!.

The French and Indian War (or Seven Years War) had been triggered by Virgina colonists who wanted to grab land beyond the proclamation line when it was French territory!. They had been looking forward to being able to slaughter the Indians and take their land, and they were upset when the British government wouldn't let them!.

So, they did way any greedy grown ups would do, they cheated!. They would go into the territories anyway and settle, or they would raid the Indian villages to provoke the Indians!. Either way, the Indians would counter attack!. The colonists would then complain about the "unprovoked" Indian attacks and demand the British Army go in!. The British knew what they were up too, and refused to be fooled!.

This was one of the complaints in the declaration of independence!. The King could not let them slaughter the Indians and take their land!. Of course, Jefferson prettied up the language so it sounded noble!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Proclamation of 1763 was issued October 7, 1763 by King George III following Great Britain's acquisition of French territory in North America after the end of the French and Indian War/Seven Years' War!. The purpose of the proclamation was to establish Britain's vast new North American empire, and to stabilize relations with Native Americans through regulation of trade, settlement, and land purchases on the western frontier!. The Proclamation in essence forbade colonists of the thirteen colonies from settling or buying land west of the Appalachian Mountains!. This led to considerable outrage in the colonies, as many colonists had already acquired land in that region!. Additionally, the Proclamation gave the Crown a monopoly in land bought from Native Americans!.

Besides regulating colonial expansion, the proclamation dealt with the management of newly ceded French colonies!.
