Question: Are all VETERANS of World War 1!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!?
automatically members of the American Legion!? Why/Why not!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
No!. While the American Legion is considered a "not for profit" organization, it is not an automatic enrollment with military service!.
It was created by soldiers returning from WW I, and has requirements for entry into the organization!. You must be honorably discharged from the military (any of the four branches) and have served at least one day of active duty during certain periods of time, such as February 28, 1961, to May 7, 1975 (in the case of Viet vets)!. The time periods coincide with the wars that have been fought, and the enrollee didn't have to serve in the war zone, just during the time period!.
Most veterans I know don't choose to seek enrollment!. The organization is very political and requires entry fees, dues, etc!. The veterans I know want an organization that will work for them, they mostly choose the Veterans of Foreign Wars, as they are very active in the VA admins and actually fight for the rights of the veterans, especially where it concerns getting their disability instated!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, because many veterans don't want to be part of the Legion!.

& while they'd most likely let in any of the less than a half dozen WW1 vets still left alive, they collect dues and as such never made anyone automatically members!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. Veterans from Britain and New Zealand and Canada and Australia and any number of other countries are not!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
