After the battle of britain and destruction of 3 of Hitlers capital ships the German Generals knew that they could not invade Britain she had control of the Air and the sea and once Monty kicked the Germans out of North Africa the Germans Generals realised they could not defeat the British it is in several s documents and autobiography's Even Rommel said in 1941 we cannot win the war that is why they wanted to assassinate Hitler

the truth we did not win the war the Germans/Hitler Lost it

His fuel and oil supplies were limited in fact albert speer informed Hitler in 1944 that Germany could no longer fight the war with their current fuel reserves in less than 6 months we will not be able to produce any because of the bombing of the factories

and after the Battle of the Bulge fuel reserves were gone

at one point the Germans were flying modified passenger aircraft into oil tankers to fly oil into Germany from North Africa the British were aware of this as early as 1942 but could not get an accurate account of Germany's fuel reserves

so even without DDay and the continuing Bombing of Germany's factories Germany would have had an army of about 3,000,000 but they would no longer be mobile

Remember most explosives are made from petrol by products Benzine based

and one of the ways to win a war is to prevent your enemy producing the tools of war and over 90% of weapons aircraft tanks and trucks ran on Oil By products and 1n 1944 the artificial aircraft Fuel was only about 85 octane even the Russians had problems with the Spitfires because they could only muster about 95 octane once the battle of Britain was won

as Churchill said in september 1940 this is not the end this is only the beginning of the end!.

And the US Military did not arrive for another 9 monthWww@QuestionHome@Com

Hitlers defeat was inevitable!. A failure at Normandy would have meant a much longer and more costly war, with western front troops attacking from Italy, Greece, and the Balkans instead!.

A Nazi victory at Normandy might have bought the Reich a year at most!. Remember that the Allies had air superiority by the summer of 44', naval supremacy, and the untouched industrial might of the United States churning out the materials needed for war!.

The Germans fancied the idea of invading Britain in the summer of 40' with their grandiose plan code named Sea Lion!. In the end they realized that their waterborne assets were no match for the Royal Navy and scrapped the plan!. With the Americans in the fray by 44' there would have been absolutely NO chance what so ever of an invasion of Great Britain!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Perhaps, but in logistical terms, compelling arguments can be made in favour of the hypothesis that the nazis could have maintained their power base in europe indefinitely afterwards!. So no collapse of the wehrmacht!.!.!. who knows what comes next!? I don see hitler going to the negotiation table with stalin truman or churchill so likely either he'd have been turfed out or kept on the way he was anyway, as you say!.!.!. If the eastern front was consolidated and maintained, who knows!? Maybe onward operation Sealion!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Since the invasion was essentially a 3rd front, it would have made the war last longer, but the result would still have been a defeat for Germany!.
Hitler had given up on invading England long before there were hundreds of thousands of American troops there with all their equipment!.
The USSR had turned the tide on Germany in the east and was already pushing their way toward Germany!.
The Americans were already on the ground in Italy and they could still have invaded southern France!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Iron Curtain would've reached the Atlantic Coast and the Red Army would've been staring across the Engish Channel at the Brits!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

armouror2000 Seems to have wrapped up the situation quite well and I would go with that!.
