A failure at Normandy would have meant a much longer and more costly war, with western front troops attacking from Italy, Greece, and the Balkans instead!. A Nazi victory at Normandy might have bought the Reich a year at most!. In the end they realized that their waterborne assets were no match for the Royal Navy and scrapped the plan!. Hitler had given up on invading England long before there were hundreds of thousands of American troops there with all their equipment!. The USSR had turned the tide on Germany in the east and was already pushing their way toward Germany!.
