Question: Who are some famous female characters from 1899-1938!?
I've gotten Pauline (the girl trapped on the railroad tracks), but I can't think of any others, this is for a 'young authors' contest!. Trust me, I've done a lot of looking, but I cannot find anyone else that suits what I'm looking for!. The basic idea is similar to the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (comic book)!. Well, 1930 was the year that the girl detective Nancy Drew first appeared on the scene, also Agatha Christie's elderly lady detective Miss Marple!. Not long afterwards another memorable female detective was created, Hildegarde Withers, the New York spinster schoolteacher created by Stuart Palmer!. I think all of them would not be out of place in a league of extraordinary ladies!.

Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz might be another possibility, she kept her cool even when dealing with the Wicked Witch of the West after all!. And Anne of Green Gables, she could talk anyone under the table!.

And let us not forget Nancy Blackett, captain of the Amazons in Arthur Ransome's 'Swallows and Amazons' which first appeared in 1930!. One of fiction's most attractive tomboys, unlike many tomboys in fiction she never disparaged her own sex or moaned about wanting to be a boy, she just got on with being herself!. She could easily be in a league of extraordinary women!.

A couple of characters from P!.G!. Wodehouse who might join your league would be Bertie Wooster's formidable Aunt Dahlia, and the hellraiser Bobbie Wickham

And Flora Poste from Stella Gibbons's 'Cold Comfort Farm' is another extraordinary woman I can imagine in your league!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Fictional:
Jane (Tarzan's mate)
Irene Adler (Sherlock Holmes' nemesis)
Mrs!. Pedecaris (from "The Wind and the Lion")Www@QuestionHome@Com

Daisy ("The Great Gatsby")
Catwoman
Scarlett or Melanie (Gone With the Wind)Www@QuestionHome@Com
