Great question! I love this place! Ok, what Churchill was saying was that as Germany built its ships out of steel, with modern artillery, using MASSIVE loads of men, they made England very, very nervous!. At that time, yoiu have to remeber that both countries had HUGE empires that stretched all over the globe!. Without airplaines yet, ships were power, in a military sense!. Germany, although it didn't have a huge stable of countries it directly ruled, had a sphere of influence that likened itself to, say, Iran today!. What they previously lacked in military might, they made up for in trade and political sway!. When they began hammering out steam powered warships with iron keels an really impressive deck guns, they publicized it!. At the time, this meant newspapers, since radio wasn't widely available!. This made England take notice, because they believed, with good reason, that Germany wanted to destabilize their empire!. When the ships were being built, England knew it was in for a whopper of a fight!. When the Lusitania was sunk, the situation came to a head, and prewar preparations were finalized!. He's referring to the increased threat, or at least perceived threat Germany posed with every new ship that it built!. Germany wanted to try and get naval parity with Great Britain because it was desperate to be seen as a Great Power to rival the best!. The accelerated production of warships by them increased tensions in Britain because we were traditionally always interested in keeping the status quo and this was a threat to that!. He does exaggerate somewhat in this quote though, being the master of rhetoric that he was, as even though tensions did increase on some level it was hardly an issue that dominated everyones' minds up to WW1!. There was a very strong possibility that a war would never have happened and British and German businessmen were indeed still doing business with eachother in July 1914!. In the end the german Chiefs of Staff admitted to themselves that Germany could never realistically compete with the British in terms of naval strength anyway, but we weren't to know that at the time of course!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it is simple!.von tirpitz was trying to overthrow the naval force of the coalition forces by one rule!. if you have read about him in detail you would know that there was one unimaginable error in his ways!. he needed to stop sending large forces to central germany when the main fight was on the outskirts!.

if you send your troops to the wrong place what do you expect!?!?!?
