Question: From when to when was the actual WWII fought!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Depends on which theater of war!.
European Theater- Sept 1, 1939-May 8, 1945 (VE-Day)!.
Pacific Theater -July 7, 1937-Sept 9, 1945 (VJ-Day)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

WWII began when Japan invaded Manchuria on 18 September 1931!. The war ended on 2 September 1945, when Japan signed the unconditional surrender!.

(People often get confused on this!. The 1 September 1939 date is the beginning of the war in Europe!. The war in Asia had already been going on for eight years when Germany invaded Poland!.)

Thank you!.

If you are having date confusion, it is probably because the war had begun for Europeans and Asians long before the US entered!. The generation of Americans who recalled WWI very clearly was determined that the US should be uninvolved (Isolationism) and although we gave aid to our traditional allies and many Americans joined the R!.A!.F!. and fought without being connected with the US military, the US did not declare war until Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941!. For years after the end of the war, there were separate remembrances on the calendar for VJ DAY(Victory over Japan Day) and VE Day (Victory over Europe)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are some good answers already!.!.
Even though the US didn't
enter ww11 formally until the declaration in Dec 1941 we were very much involved in producing arms and aircraft much earlier!.
A high ranking Army Air Force general convinced Henry Ford
to build a huge factory at Willow Run, near Detroit!. I don't know
the start date but this factory built one B-24 bomber every day!.
Before we got into the war Roosevelt signed a "Lend Lease" agreement
with Churchill and we supplied arms to england!. Similar factories
were built around the US!.
Another interesting fact about the war I learned from a historian
on a river boat on the columbia river!. Our Ship went through seven
locks that were connected to hydro electric dams that were
built during the depression to provide jobs!. The guide said that
quite likely all those new power plants helped us win the war!.
He said smelting aluminum requires vast quantities of energy
and we had enough power to turn out aluminum to build
thousands of airplanes!.
A display at the Naval Museum in Norfolk, Va said that over
1100 "Liberty Ships" [cargo ships] were sunk in the north Atlantic
during that war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
